Does Psilocybin Cause Drug Dependence?

Psilocybin mushrooms are popular and trendy right now. You will find plenty of bands and celebrities who experiment with the drug and aren't shy about sharing their experiences. The mushrooms go under different names like magic mushrooms and shrooms. Psilocybin mushrooms are hallucinogens and some people think they are addictive, but are they really?

Drug abuse can occur with any drug, and Shrooms are no different. Anyone can develop psychological dependence on any drug, but physical dependence is another matter. Magic mushrooms have been used for centuries in religious rites. Shamans and religious elders in ancient cultures take them for wisdom and our modern day youth is experimenting with them too.

Magic mushrooms became very popular in America during the 60's. They were one of the drugs of the hippie revolution. Studies show that psilocybin is not physically addictive. It isn't poisonous either. Magic mushrooms don't seem to cause a psychological dependence either.

The only problems seem to be when people either accidentally poison themselves by eating wild mushrooms, or they experience intense hallucinations that cause them to hurt themselves accidentally. Some people experience continual hallucinations and never quite come back from their psychedelic journey.

You can't overdose on psilocybin mushrooms as they are non-toxic to your internal organs. If you take too many, you may experience psychological distress or a bad trip. People who are mentally unstable should not take psilocybin mushrooms.

Another reason not to take them is that they can sometimes be a gateway drug to harder drugs. If you start off experimenting with Shrooms, you might move on to heroin. If you think you have a problem with Shrooms, speak with a drug abuse counselor and get help for your problem. You may benefit from counseling or other intervention if a problem is present.

Obvious Signs Of Alcohol Abuse

Alcohol abuse is a serious threat to your health and the health of the people around you. If you don't get help for the abuse you can get sick and eventually die. Thankfully, there are plenty of treatments available to people who are dealing with the effects of alcohol abuse.

Alcohol and drug abuse has many signs, and most of them are obvious. The first sign of course is drinking. Many abusers smell like alcohol and you will find lots of alcohol in the house. Someone who abuses alcohol will often appear cranky, sleep a lot, and have anger issues. The person may get into trouble due to their alcohol abuse like having a DUI on their driving record or being caught drunk at work.

Other signs of alcohol abuse are more subtle. The abuser may be unable to concentrate, seem lethargic and also seem distracted. The abuser might have blackouts and not remember certain things he said or did. Blackouts are serious as they are signs of beginning brain damage.

If you are abusing alcohol, you need alcohol abuse treatment right away. Most people are unable to overcome their abuse without some sort of help, be it going to AA meetings or going to rehab. You need support to stop drinking because it is both a physical and mental addiction.

Your body will ache when you stop drinking. You might experience tremors, extreme cramps, vomiting and more. It helps to be in a medical setting when you are trying to stop drinking. A physician can help you with the physical aspects of your withdrawal, while therapists can help you with the mental aspects of your addiction. You can also get emotional support from other people who are going through rehab with you. Patient support can be healing.

Tips For Choosing The Right Substance Abuse Treatment Center

If you've been in addict for a while and you're now finally searching for a good treatment center in order to get straight, you probably realize that there are quite a few options to choose from. Each program that you look at has a different method, some are inpatient, some are outpatient, some use  acupuncture, so how are you supposed to decide? Let's go over a few disadvantages and advantages of the different kinds clinics to help you with your choice.

One of the first things that you will want to look at is what kind of substance abuse each particular clinic that you're  considering can handle? Of course, every one of them will say they handle every kind of addiction, however, that is usually not the truth because some of them specialize in heroin addiction while others specialize in methamphetamine, and so on. So if you are abusing alcohol, for instance, the program that specializes in  heroine addicts probably won't be right for you.

Another important consideration is whether you're going to be inpatient or outpatient while you're being treated. If you are suffering from a difficult addiction, it's nearly always  better to be an inpatient at the treatment center in order to completely deny yourself any access to your drug of choice. And in addition, if the people that you normally hang out with when you are out on the street and around your friends are all using drugs  it's absolutely necessary that you go with inpatient treatment.

The final consideration is whether or not you're going to be  able to afford the cost of the treatment to get clean. You'll definitely want to check with your insurance carrier and see what costs they are willing to cover before you decide on a particular clinic. There's absolutely no point in looking at clinics that you can't afford to attend.

Getting clean can be a difficult process,  no matter how long you've been an addict. It's important that you choose a clinic wisely and make a solid commitment to completing the entire program in order not to relapse.

The Abuse And Recovery From Crystal Meth

The crystal meth epidemic has not been as publicized as the crack epidemic of the 1980's. Also, crystal meth doesn't require the trafficking of it across borders, anyone can make meth at home. Meth is very much a homegrown drug and we are less critical of our own monsters, our own creations than those that come from a foreign land. It is hard to put a face that is unfamiliar as the villain, therefore the crystal meth epidemic fails to create a narrative that can catch steam and one that doesn't remind us that we are our own demons, our own bad guy and the source of our biggest drug problem in years. It is hard to point a finger at ourselves.

This fundamental problem has made it so that meth is ignored, it is only seen as a rural drug and not something that your teenager will try, at least until they do or they die. It has only been after 15 years into this war that PSA commercial are being played about meth addiction. Just say no isn't the cry of this generations war on drug, long prison sentences are not either but commercials about families breaking down and a user finally deciding to get help. They have gotten one thing right and that is the need to get professional help. Addiction recovery requires the help of a trained professional. Recovery is tough, many people fall off the wagon and need a support system to get them back on again. We provide a professional support system for those who are looking for help with their addiction.

Methylphenidate Addiction And Dangers

Methylphenidate is better known by the name Ritalin. Ritalin is a common prescription drug used to treat ADHD. For the most part, it is a very safe drug but it is not without its side effects and issues. Some common issues are anxiety, flushed skin, insomnia, high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack. As you can see, Ritalin has some serious side effects and is a drug that should be used with extreme caution. It is a drug that you shouldn't play around with because it can seriously harm you or your children. Take caution with all drug use.

Some Will Not Listen

Some people just won't listen to the warnings that are given and will abuse these drugs no matter what. With ADHD medication, people who don't even have ADHD use them as a party drug and as a study aid. This can often lead to addiction and/or other serious health issues. This article is more about addiction than the health risk that abuse and that even suggested use can cause. We will focus on the subset of people who use Methlyphenidate as a party drug, as an unprescribed study aid and as the drug they are addicted to.

Drug addiction comes in many forms, a person can become addicted to Ritalin, just like they can to any other drug. With any form of addiction, your best bet to get better and to beat your addiction is to seek the help of a professional drug abuse center. Realize that you have a substance abuse issue, that you aren't qualified to fix it on your own and that there are professionals who make their living helping substance abuse patients get better.

Effects Of Abusing Marijuana Illegally or Medicinally

Many people smoke marijuana and do not believe that they are abusing a drug.  They liken their use to that of others smoking cigarettes.  While in some places marijuana use is legal, there are still a great many places that it is illegal to smoke pot.

The most common effect of smoking pot is a feeling of relaxation and feeling a highness.  These good effects are offset by the side effects of impaired motor skills and short term memory loss.  Dry mouth and red eyes are often commonly reported as well.

While there are many people that abuse pot and can not function well, either with or without pot, there are others that use the marijuana to function.  These people are the ones that have been prescribed medical marijuana.  Marijuana has been found to be helpful for some patients that have been diagnosed with cancer.

There still remains a great debate as to whether these effects truly help the patient.  Many authorities believe that there are too many potential side effects, and that it is too difficult to regulate.  There are many studies that are attempting to prove our disprove various theories about the use of marijuana.

It will be between the patient and their doctor as to whether or not they believe pot could have a beneficial effect.  For those people that are using pot recreationally, then it will have to be a chance that they take as to whether or not they are caught in an area where marijuana is illegal.  Until marijuana can be regulated in a way such as tobacco or alcohol, it will probably never be legal for use in all areas.  As with any drug use, the user will have to weigh the pros and the cons to determine whether or not the risks are worth it.

Heroin Dangers: The Hot Dose

There are a great many dangers that are associated with the use of heroin, and all of them are quite terrifying. None of those dangers compare to the danger of a "hot dose" though, which is dangerous and horrifying.

What is a Hot Dose?

A "hot dose" is the name given to a dose of heroin that has been purposefully tainted. Most often times, the dose is spiked with battery acid, it is done on purpose, and usually with a malicious intent.

What Happens if you Shoot a Hot Dose?

You die. It is as simple as that. This is a dose of heroin that is designed to kill the user as soon as the heroin/battery acid reaches the heart.

Who Creates Hot Doses?

Hot doses can be created by anyone who has heroin and wants to make it deadly by adding the battery acid. As horrifying as it may sound, the majority of hot doses are mixed by one junkie and given to another, in order to kill and rob that person and blame it on an accidental overdose. The hot doses also have been reported to be used to shoot-up someone that was passed-out to simply just kill them and make it look like an overdose.

And then there are the truly frightening cases of drug dealers who for whatever reason give out these doses to customers who angered them, were always late with payments, etc. There have also been cases of people who are just crazy and started selling hot doses simply to kill others.

Hot Doses are simply killer doses of heroin. You cannot tell the difference between a regular dose and a hot dose, so the danger is always there that this use of the drug will be a fatal one. This is why heroin itself is a terrifying drug, with many more dangers that just the risk of addiction and accidental overdose.
